Welcome to Australian Hostels Association, WA

AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the eight finalists competed in a cook-off in front of a live audience at the AHA Hospitality Expo, showcasing a range of quality masterpieces that demonstrated the strength of the competition.

“For 15 years, WA chefs have been raising the bar when it comes to creating incredible steak sandwiches and this year we saw kitchens across the state deliver some incredible versions of what is a truly classic pub meal,” Mr Woods said.

“The competition continues to grow as result of the strong support it receives from the WA community, who cast many thousands of votes throughout the month of May.”

Chef Mickey Phull of the Last Local won over the judges with his Chicago-inspired French dip steak sandwich, which contains beef short rib, melted cheese, caramelised onions, sour cream, horseradish sauce and slaw.

Chef Ats Johanson flew down from Karratha to represent North West Brewing Co, who appeared in the finals for the first time and won the competition with a coffee-infused Black Angus steak, whisky onion jam, Swiss cheese, bacon and iceberg lettuce on Turkish bread.

The overall winner for the 2022 competition will be announced at the AHA Hospitality Awards for Excellence on 7 November.
